What To Do When Death Occurs:
When a death occurs in your family, you will be faced with making important decisions during a very difficult time. This responsibility can be an overwhelming task. You are not alone. The Corey-Ragan Funeral Home has been there to help during these trying times for many years. We are available 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year to offer you guidance and assistance. The following list has been compiled to help guide you through the process of what you will need to do when a death has occurred. Our funeral director will help you with all the details when you meet for an arrangement conference.
After a death has occurred, contact the Corey-Ragan Funeral Home by calling 732-382-7900.
We will set an appointment time for you to come into the funeral home to prepare the arrangements. We will ask you to bring the following necessary information and personal items to complete the arrangements.
The following is a checklist of important information to bring with you to your arrangement appointment:
Vital Statistics Needed:
•Full legal name
•Full legal address
•Marital status
•Date and place of birth
•Last place of employment (including name, town, and state of employer)
•Occupation
•Years of education (last grade completed and degrees received)
•Social security number
•Place of burial, entombment or cremation
•Name, address, and phone number of person in charge of these arrangements
•Parent’s names (including mother’s maiden name)
•Veteran’s discharge papers (if applicable)
•Cemetery deed or grave location
Biographical Information Needed:
•Name, town, and state of residence of survivors (spouse, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, possible close friends or partners)
•Chronological order of places of residence for decedent
•Memberships in clubs, organizations, volunteer work, as well as positions held
•Religious affiliation, church memberships, and positions held with the church, if any
•Military information
•Education/schooling (be specific with degrees, and years of graduation)
•Alumni organizations
•Special hobbies, interests and awards received
•Personal remarks about the deceased
•Work history (positions held, years of service, awards, etc.)
•Memorial donations that will be made in the name of the deceased (church, hospice, charity, etc.)
Funeral Information Needed:
•Where and when do you want visiting hours or a gathering?
•Where and when should the ceremony be held?
•Should there be any special services by civic and volunteer groups?
•Name of clergy, church, and religious affiliation
•Who are to be pallbearers?
•What newspapers should we be contacting (local, state, national)?
•Is monument work to be done?
•How many certified copies of the death certificate will you need?
Clothing and Other Items Needed:
•Color picture of the decedent (it will be returned to you in original condition)
•Clothing, including underclothing (whatever you choose for your loved one to wear)
•Shoes are optional
•Jewelry, glasses, personal effects (rosaries, icons, prayer books, medals, etc.)
•What personal effects should be returned to the family, and what should stay with the deceased?
•What to do with flowers after the funeral (cemetery, church, hospital, etc.)
Death Out of State
When a death occurs unexpectedly away from home, the Corey-Ragan Funeral Home will assist you in any way we can.
What To Do:
Call the Corey-Ragan Funeral Home at 732-382-7900 at any time. It is not necessary for you to contact an out-of-state funeral home. The Corey-Ragan Funeral Home will take care of all the necessary arrangements to have the deceased prepared and transported back to New Jersey. We will need some basic information from you and we will set up a time for you to meet with us upon your return to New Jersey.
